A Hayes Greenfield show offers a truly authentic New York jazz experience. Tonight, the alto saxophonist and his quartet — Neal Kirkood (piano), Dean Johnson (bass), and Tony Moreno (drums) — debut music from Greenfield's new album, Light Shade Shadow, which pays homage to the classic jazz sounds of the late '50s and early '60s. Fittingly, the music is also featured in two new documentaries on the modernist architects Bill Krisel and Don Wexler. Located in the heart of the West Village, legendary club Smalls is the perfect venue for Greenfield; founded by the son of an art-gallery owner, it's intimate and cozy, featuring dim lighting, overstuffed chairs, and comfortable seating throughout its various nooks and crannies.
