We don't know about you, but we've been waiting for this forever. Nabokov's much whispered-about, half-finished novel The Original of Laura is released on November 17. To celebrate, author and total Nabokov nerd Martin Amis, Nabokov biographer Brian Boyd, and The Original of Laura designer Chip Kidd (who also happens to be one of the best book-jacket designers working today), host a reading and a discussion of the incomparable writer's life and legacy. We hear the book is amazing, each page presented beautifully with the original index cards, and, barring the man himself, we can't think of anyone better than these three gentlemen to introduce it.

92nd Street Y (92Y) says…

When Vladimir Nabokov died in 1977, he left instructions that the 138 handwritten index cards that composed the rough draft of his novel-in-progress, The Original of Laura, were to be burned. Now, more than 30 years later, Nabokov’s son Dmitri—the only surviving heir and a translator of many of his father's books—has decided to publish Laura. Join Martin Amis, Nabokov biographer Brian Boyd, Laura's designer Chip Kidd and others as they discuss the master's life and work, with a reading from Laura to follow.
