Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol
-
- John Leech, Mr. Fezziwig's Ball (detail), original watercolor illustration for Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol, first edition, 1843.
J.P. Morgan loved to purchase art from every era. This amazing eclecticism is reflected in his museum's rotating exhibition schedule, which includes this annual holiday showcase for the original manuscript of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Written in just six weeks, the famed tale of a miserly soul who rediscovers his holiday spirit has been a bestseller since 1843. A look at the red, leather-bound volume is enough to chase away the inner-Scrooge that might emerge with the holiday crowd on the doorsteps.
Note:
The Morgan holds its annual Winter Family Day Celebration on Sunday, December 6. Among the activities are art workshops, costumed characters, and special performances.
