Edwin Ushiro's multimedia paintings are ethereal combinations of pop art and anime, combining paint, ink, iron-on transfers, fabric, and digital media. Ushiro's stand-apart work marks him as a must-watch local artist. Nate Frizzell combines a dark sophistication with the chaos of youthful imagination in a new series of lush paintings depicting the fusion of human and animal identities in a magic-realist style. These are just two of the half-dozen artists from the stable of LA-based LeBasse Projects, whose work will serve as cultural ambassadors from the edge of West Coast urban romanticism to the heart of the LES during this weekend's three-day pop-up gallery.
