Collapse recalls Errol Morris' superlative series of interviews, First Person. Here, it's former LAPD officer turned rebel with cause-for-alarm Michael Ruppert, who delivers an incredible monologue that says to hell with capitalism — that there's always more. For 82 minutes, he transfixes with a litany of oncoming collapses (previously, he predicted the economic vortex), and his warnings resound in the ear like a timpani that goes doom-doom-doom. Yet, as he describes the "peak oil" crisis (aka our depleted supply) and its domino effect, director Chris Smith frames him less as a savior than a man sealed off by his own neurosis and righteousness.
