Playwrights Horizons says…

Melissa James Gibson's latest slice-of-life play focuses on Jane (Julianne Nicholson), a newly widowed and once-promising thritysomething poet who stumbles through life with her equally lost friends: Alan (Glenn Fitzgerald), a bitter mnemonist who drinks and masturbates excessively; Marrell (Eisa Davis), an aspiring jazz singer and new mother; Tom (Darren Pettie), her carpenter husband whose unfinished projects clutter their loft; and Jean-Pierre (Louis Cancelmi), a sexually liberated French doctor. Gibson has a flair for wordplay and her dialogue combines wonderful linguistic flourishes reminiscent of Tom Stoppard with David Mamet's fast-paced delivery. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the result is a sublime character study with rich support from Louisa Thompson's inventive sets and Peter Eldridge's soulful music.
