”An engaging documentary about the struggle to create an enlightening primer on sexism in the art world.”-The New York Times
From Pamela Tanner Boll, the Academy-Award winning co-executive producer of Born Into Brothels, comes the new documentary, Who Does She Think She Is? This film follows five women artists as they navigate the challenges of making work outside the elite upper echelons of the art world. Each woman has a radically different background, race, religious creed and choice of artistic field, range in age from 27 to 65, and live in communities as different as the suburbs of Ohio and Hawaii’s Big Island. In tandem with their creative existence, they are pulled in different directions as they try to answer the competing demands of artistic fulfillment, marriage, motherhood and economic survival. Set in the larger historic context of women's shifting status as artists, Who Does She Think She Is? portrays real women who are a testament to both the heartbreak and the beauty of a 21st century life lived in art.
Join this ONE DAY ONLY event which will bring viewers together as they watch in cinemas and simultaneous house parties across the U.S. in a National House Party. Afterwards, a live interactive talkback with director Pamela Tanner Boll and the artists featured in the film will originate at Symphony Space.
Moderating this panel will be Courtney E. Martin, the award-winning author of Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters: How the Quest for Perfection is Harming Young Women called "a hardcover punch in the gut" by Arianna Huffington and "a smart and spirited rant that makes for thought-provoking reading" by the New York Times.
