More recently known for visceral documentaries with strong central characters like Grizzly Man (2005), Werner Herzog's latest foray into narrative is a collaboration with David Lynch. My Son promises to be dark as it is inspired (by the true story of Mark Yavorsky, a grad student who enacted Sophocles' Orestes to horrifying results). Michael Shannon — who proved he could play creepy very well in the Off-Broadway hit Bug — stars as Yavorsky while Willem Dafoe (in an unusually heroic role) plays the detective chasing him.
