John Maringouin's documentary charts Solvenian endurance swimmer Martin Strel's journey to swim the (until now) unconquerable Amazon river. He's already wet his feet with the Mississippi, Danube, and Yangtze, but Strel is far from the Michael Phelps of daredevil swimmers. He's middle aged, overweight, and by most accounts an alcoholic: he drinks two bottles of red wine every day even when swimming — making his journey all the more insane and thrilling to watch. This triumph-of-the-human-spirit type story is complemented nicely with dark, almost absurdist humor.
