The Brits know how to do it.
Shakespeare’s Globe theater company makes a rare trip from London with
Love’s Labour’s Lost, a comic look at the foibles of infatuation. The play is set in the court of Navarre, where the prince and his men have vowed to forsake all contact with women in order to dedicate the next three years to intellectual study. This oath begs to be broken, and when a smart-mouthed princess and her ladies-in-waiting come to visit, a flirtatious battle of wits ensues. Linguistic gymnastics and slapstick comedy are happy bedfellows here and the production — replete with period music — overflows with bawdy innuendoes and double entendres.
