The Flea Theater says…

Kaspar Hauser (Preston Martin) is one little boy who should have stayed lost. The real-life 19th-century Nuremberg foundling is the spirited inspiration behind Elizabeth Swados and Erin Courntney's new musical-theatre piece. The "wild child"'s story remains unsolved, but is a texbook child-abuse case. While operatic in structure (the score builds thematically along with Kaspar's vocabulary) and context (confusing identities, fairweather mobs, Eurotrash nobility), Kaspar Hauser is all about Swados' gift for creating "the moment." The Bats, Flea Theater's resident company, handle Kaspar's dizzying 90 minutes with ease. Besides Mr. Martin's Kaspar, noteworthy performances are given by Nicholas Greco as a Professor who takes him in, and Amy Jackson as the Professor's Mother and Kaspar's voice of reason.
