One of the first labels to take a chance on the likes of Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, and Sun Ra, ESP-Disk did more than just push free jazz forward — it created a template for artist-centered innovation. Its catalog contains some of the most fiercely independent — not to mention mind-blowingly weird — jazz records ever released. Tonight, the old imprint gets a new showcase as the Bowery Poetry Club hosts long-missing (and presumed dead) sax player Giuseppi Logan, alongside German multi-instrumentalist Gunter Hampel.
