Philly-based beatsmith Starkey, purveyor of all sounds wobbly, makes tracks that defy the oft-held belief that dubstep is a genre inherently tough to dance to. Soulful, but unflinchingly badass tracks like "Dark Alley" and "Spacewalk," both from his new Ephemeral Exhibits record, are peppered with schizoid lazer-synths and booming basslines, resulting in a truly innovative approach to a sometimes formulaic genre. Tonight Starkey is joined at Dub War by 2562 from the Netherlands, who favors a steely techno sheen on his 2-step and digi-dub.
