The connection between Paris Hilton and America's ill-fated military interventions might seem tenuous, but after viewing Jonathan Horowitz's sculptures and video installations the link becomes obvious and uncomfortable. For his first solo show in NYC, P.S.1 has grouped pieces that date back to the early '90s, but form a cohesive body of work that echoes Marshal McLuhan's reflections on media and Andy Warhol's eye for mundane aesthetics. And while celebrity iconography is at the center of much of his work, Horowitz's use of materials such as faded videotapes and outdated technologies creates an odd sense of calm despite representing a world filled with horror.
