Amanda Stern is back at Joe's Pub with more creative compatriots for this month's Happy Ending Music & Reading Series. The theme is Affliction Night, and Stern welcomes Sarah Manguso and Jayne Anne Phillips, two authors who seem to know a thing or two about affliction — Manguso's acclaimed memoir The Two Kinds of Decay documents her personal battle against an autoimmune disease, while Phillips' novel MotherKind follows a woman caring for her dying mother, while she also prepares for her first child. As always, each writer is required to take one risk on stage. Musical guest Daniel Knox (who has played with everyone from David Lynch to Rufus Wainwright and Handsome Family) flies in from Chicago.
