In Distracted, ADHD permeates the entire play, down to its structure: short, fast scenes shift focus on a dime. Even the colorful, playground-like set feels ADHD-friendly. A cast lead by Cynthia Nixon portrays a family's battle to diagnose and then treat their nine-year-old boy's Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Playwright Lisa Loomer's snappy dialogue lends even the mundane details of her characters' lives an exceptional emotional resonance. Without condoning any specific treatment option, Distracted shows the universal parental struggle of trying to give your kid a happier life.
