Janera, an online social network for diaspora folks (aka global nomads), hosts tonight's salon to bring attention to the plight of an estimated 27 million modern-day slaves. Photographer Jennifer MacFarlane exhibits her shots of Cambodian brothels, while author Benjamin Skinner (A Crime So Monstrous) leads a discussion. A cocktail reception precedes the talk, and a dance party, with beats by drummer John Amira and the GlobeSonic DJs, follows. The best part: all proceeds go to the Somaly Mam Foundation, an org dedicated to fighting human trafficking, but also rehabilitating victims through micro-finance assistance and job training.
