Landmark Sunshine says…

An imaginative ode to Japan's capital told in three parts, Tokyo! is cleverly linked by themes of alienation, identity, and destiny. Michel Gondry's "Interior Design" kicks off the triptych, chronicling a peculiar metamorphosis with the director's trademark surrealist flair. Leos Carax's "Merde" moves from Tokyo's tenements into the sewers, where a despicable leprechaun-type creature awaits to gleefully terrorize innocent citizens, until his doppelgänger, a French attorney, intervenes. Bong Joon-Ho concludes the metropolitan love letter with "Shaking Tokyo," zeroing in on a recluse whose comfortable existence is disrupted by a series of violent earthquakes and a beguiling pizza-delivery girl.
