Riffing on Rosalind Krauss' essay, "The Double Negative," in which the author considers the "organization of matter" through systems and repetition, Martha Friedman cooks up an entire series of waffles in marble, paper, and rubber. The exhibit opens with Butter, a sculptural homage to the batter's key ingredient, and goes on to display the finished treats. Actual-size, symmetrical grids of waffle reliefs in cast pigment and paper pulp are paired with super-sized rubber flaps where contorted waffle pieces float on a syrupy surface. All of that's enough to catch a craving for the Belgian delicacies; luckily Thomas DeGeest's Wafels and Dinges truck is never too far away.
