Red Fly/Blue Bottle is a multimedia experiment conducted by the play's protagonist, Clarissa. An entomologist, her scientific specialty both explains and distorts a defining moment haunting her younger self, played by Jesse Hawley. A devastating look at loss guided by pulsating, memorable songs, the 75-minute work is a mystery, love story, and occasionally, a humorous science lecture. The random arrangement of objects (Jim Findlay's set is an electronic treasure chest) and video images recreate Clarissa's memories and the world beyond her cluttered workspace. However, there's nothing random about Christina Campanella's score and Stephanie Fleischmann's text. The somewhat-philosophical work takes some concentration on the part of the audience, but is overwhelmingly rewarding.
