May 1, 2009 – July 31, 2009
Tuesdays–Saturdays (10am–6pm)
Viewers walk in spirals from a snake's tail to its head, and back again through the arches of this massive installation conceived by avant-garde artist Huang Yong Ping. A founding member of the Xiamen Dada group in China during the 1980s, Huang now lives in France. Folding Eastern and Western symbols into this piece, Huang references the architecture of Gothic cathedrals with a structure made up almost entirely of bamboo. As the footpath creaks loudly beneath you, just remind yourself the stuff's as good as steel.
