The Company's two programs at Skirball are excellent ways to either become acquainted with or rediscover Martha Graham's genius. Told from the not-so-dead queen's perspective, Clytemnestra has been absent from the New York stage for 15 years; on the second program is another thrillingly retold and sexually charged myth, in which Ariadne performs her Errand Into the Maze with the Minotaur. Also in that program is a solo that helped make Martha Graham a legend: the name Lamentation implies rigid classicism, yet the grief expressed by this swaying everywoman roars in its silence. Four choreographers have created Variations based on color footage of Graham performing the piece.
