The Film Society of Lincoln Center says…

Steve McQueen is probably the only man on the planet who could have made a turtleneck and blazer look badass. It's exactly this mix of coffeehouse cool and grittiness that made him a Hollywood outlier, who was as comfortable with the ladies as he was training in jeet kun do with his buddy Bruce Lee. His legacy has since been elevated by his mainstream-for-the-day action vehicles crossing over to art-house status. Many of these flicks — which define the '70s almost as much as the man himself — are showing in the Film Society of Lincoln Center's mini-McQueen fest, Yesterday's Loner. Catch exquisite prints of blue-chip productions including The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, and our personal fave, and still the best Jim Thompson film adaptation ever, The Getaway.
