The Morgan Library says…

If only it was possible to see how designs for Creating the Modern Stage looked and functioned back in their original period stages, instead of behind glass in 2009. This exhibit highlights 20th-century theatre innovation in Europe, Russia, and the United States, with the theme that creativity flourishes in spite of war and socioeconomic uncertainty. Special attention is paid to Gordon Craig, whose Shakespearean theories influenced the career of not only second cousin John Gielgud but many who followed. While there is no exhibition catalog, listening stations provide musical illustrations from Wagner to Gershwin. Schoenberg's Hand of Fate is conducted by Pierre Boulez, whose recent Carnegie Hall appearances proved again that he is classical music's coolest guy alive.
