While Relapse is busy forcing everybody to acknowledge that perhaps Eminem's perceived impact on rap is in desperate need of some reevaluation, two actual hip-hop dignitaries, DJ Kool Herc and KRS-One, perform live at Santos Party House. Kool Herc, a first-adopter in hip-hop's nascent scene, is widely held to be the originator of both the breakbeat and MCing, two of the pivotal breakthroughs in the development of rap, while KRS-One's pioneering work with Boogie Down Productions paved the way for gangsta rap with lyrics that simultaneously decried and reveled in the violent realities of life in the Bronx.
