Adele

Sold Out!

While the emergence of pipsqueak balladeer Duffy is certainly evidence of a market-share grab in the wake of a wasted Winehouse, grouping Adele into the supposed UK retro soul revival is more of a stretch. Adele's powerful, unaffected voice would fit in well with the greats, like her hero, Etta James, but her songs are unabashed pop takes on blues themes — soaring strings on the heartbroken hit "Chasing Pavements" lend a clue. A massively viewed SNL appearance aside, Adele is only scratching fame's surface in America. But with four Grammy nominations and this rapidly selling out US tour, she's sure to capture hearts here, too.

You are right, Jake in that Adele is not to be unwittingly lumped into the retro trend coming out of the UK, which I am thoroghly enjoying. Adele sports her own soulful sound, which is evidenced by her not mysteriously loosing her accent when singing. Adele, Im down. And Day Dreamer is about me. - Rafik Sebastian, Philly
