Recently, the experience of yoga in NYC has been particularly creative, with legions of New Yorkers moving through classes at the MoMA Sculpture Garden or finding nearby mountain tops for epic sun salutations. The creativity continues as Yoga Soundscape puts its own unique twist on this 5,000-year-old moving art form: Brooklyn-based tour-de-force Aarona Pichinson has gathered an impressive collective of musicians to accompany her free-flowing, nurturing teaching style. GlobeSonic's world-music maestro DJ Derek Beres spins tracks with Tbird Luv (flute/vocals), Matt Kilmer (frame drum), and Tom Russi (26-string African kora) adding vibrant sounds to this always-empowering yogic experience. The class is also the grand opening of the dazzling YogaWorks Soho studio, and serves as a benefit for the extraordinary Soho Partnership, which helps local homeless to re-enter the workforce.
