Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
Saturday June 20, 2009 (4–8pm)
Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park
26 New Dock St
718.802.0603
$10 suggested donation
Note:
The full festival lasts three days, including a retrospective photo show at Galapagos on June 18, family activities at the park today from noon-4pm, and an afterparty show at Southpaw with Tanya Morgan and Buckshot tonight.
The style may have started in the Bronx, but there's never been a more vibrant center of hip-hop exceptionalism than Brooklyn. That symbiosis is celebrated today with a block party writ massive, featuring a devastating lineup of legends, including DJ Premier, Dead Prez, Pharoahe Monch, and Grand Puba. The free party is sure to bring half of Kings County to the park, so plan on coming early to stake out a spot near the stages.
