Dan Flavin, monument 4 for those who have been killed in ambush (to P.K. who reminded me about death), 1966

David Zwirner takes full advantage of its adjacent gallery spaces and gives four walls to each of six pioneering conceptual and minimal works by the movements' biggest names. Richard Serra's lead sculpture enacts the verb "to prop;" Flavin's monument bathes a room in red; LeWitt's three squares make a cube; Sandback's lengths of yarn turn absence into presence; and McCracken's mirrored volumes section their surroundings. With plenty of room to breathe, each installation, like the viewer's engagement, goes uninterrupted.
