In person, young Torontonian Slim Twig comes off like the star of an unreleased David Lynch film — a pale, lanky rockabilly guitar slinger with a dark secret. Slim's music combines a found-sound pastiche aesthetic with spare drum-machine snares and his trademark ghostly yelp, evoking a no-wave take on Roy Orbison. With his debut full-length album, Contempt!, dropping June 9, the sharp-dressed troubadour crosses the border to share his unusual tunes. Brooklyn-based chanteuse Pepi Ginsberg opens with a set of cleverly arranged folk rock.
