We've all been there: walking innocently down the street, only to be taken aback by a little poster tacked to a wall with a picture of mutilated celebrities and a band you've never heard of. Died Young, Stayed Pretty is a documentary exploring the underground gig-poster community making these seditious works. The project is the first full-length documentary from Eileen Yaghoobian, whose passion for her subject is evident throughout the film. Attention is given not just to the art or the community as a whole, but to the individual artists involved. The film draws its greatest strength here, as the inspirations, personal quirks, and often destitute living conditions of the poster-makers are frequently as engaging as their works.
