A Night in the Maghreb
Two prominent Berber artists appear on a special double bill for the first time in the U.S. Singer-songwriter Idir is a leading voice of Berber culture and identity (kabyle), appealing to fans of traditional music as well as admirers of his recent hip-hop collaborations. Najat Aatabou's status as the "Queen of Chaabi" is marked by songs that protest against gender inequality. The Chemical Brothers sampled Aatou's anthemic Just Tell Me the Truth for their 2005 hit Galvanize.
