Guggenheim Museum says…

In art, as in most everything else, being first counts for a lot. Andy Warhol, Ed Kienholz, and R. Crumb are just three on the diverse list of now-famous artists that Walter Hopps was the first to show. On Monday, the director of the Guggenheim Foundation and Museum, Richard Armstrong, joins Hans Ulrich Obrist, co-director of exhibitions and programs (as well as director of international projects at the London-based Serpentine Gallery) to discuss the impact on modern art of Hopps' curatorial efforts. Hopps is one of 11 curators detailed in Obrist's A Brief History of Curating, a new book mapping the evolution of the curatorial field.
