Acclaimed post-Bop pianist Bill Charlap returns for his fifth year as artistic director of this popular festival encapsulating all things jazz. This summer, Charlap combines tributes to jazz greats: saxophonist Gerry Muligan and recently departed pianist extraordinaire Oscar Peterson, with concerts that go beyond the scope of the genre. Highlights include the music of Stephen Sondheim and Jules Styne — as interpreted by Charlap and friends — along with a show devoted to the music of Vince Guaraldi (of "Linus and Lucy" fame). Those interested in the technique behind the music would be wise to check out the master class tonight, which kicks off the ten-day fest.
