Local band Red Directors unleash their debut record tonight, offering fun, top-down cruisin' music. It's a meta-rock n' roll album, with elements from the '60s, '70s and '90s, including organs, slide guitar, and piano, all led by frontman Trevor Potts, who commands the room with his big voice and personality — and isn't afraid to jump around with mic in hand. Many of the songs are about forgetting your troubles, driving forward, and finding the silver lining, despite difficult relationships and looming break-ups. The most ambitious is "Amazing," a love song that demonstrates the band's drive to keep it positive and simple — a refreshing perspective from a group ready to break out of the basements of the LES.
