You could make a good case for calling Alarm Will Sound the coolest ensemble performing today. The 20-member band's repertoire leans toward the experimental, including compositions by modern composers like Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and John Adams. But although their work relies heavily on proprietary arrangements of avant-garde pieces, Alarm Will Sound still maintain a penchant for performing works from outsider musicians like the Shaggs or out-there pop-satirists like Frank Zappa. Highlights from tonight's program include Autechre ("Cfern 6"), Mochipet ("Dessert Search for Techno Baklava"), the Beatles ("Revolution 9"), and several selections from Aphex Twin.

(Le) Poisson Rouge says…

Alarm Will Sound performing the music of Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Mochipet.

Commemorating the five-year anniversary of their groundbreaking Acoustica album, the 20-piece chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound returns to New York with a program of arrangements from electronic composers Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Mochipet.

This is a standing room only show.
