Sharing the stage with Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars, and having guest vocals from Orchestra Baobob on your album does a lot in terms of cred, if you're a post-Afrobeat band. Tonight's openers, the Superpowers, can lay claim to both of the above, but you'll probably be too busy swaying at Southpaw tonight to worry about their rep. The sprawling ten-piece group combines polyrhythmic percussion with a killer horn section for funky, soulful, and hugely danceable tunes. One-man Afrobeat band Chico Mann headlines, with a more electronic take on the genre.
