Joan As Police Woman is the musical nom de guerre of the singer and multi-instrumentalist Joan Wasser. After playing in a series of art rock bands (starting with The Dambuilders), Wasser, a classically trained violinist, acquired a reputation on the alternative rock scene as a firstcall side player, working with everyone from Lou Reed to Antony and the Johnsons to Rufus Wainwright. Since picking up a guitar and launching her solo career she has released a critically acclaimed EP and two albums, 2006's Real Life and last year's To Survive. She performs here with a full band.
From one brilliant rock goddess to another: Holly Miranda’s solo project (she also sings with the excellent band The Jealous Girlfriends) has whipped critics into a frenzy, inspiring favorable comparisons to Feist and Cat Power.
