Known for her atmospheric, black-and-white city portraits, photographer Lynn Saville's latest body of color work, Night/Shift, presents a flaneur's view of New York boroughs under the cover of dark. Shooting in twilight and at dawn, Saville exposes the underpinnings of the city by highlighting the details of quotidian streetscapes with ambient light — billboards, surveillance lighting, street lamps, and headlights. The result is magnetic yet unsettling, a series of tableaux documenting an ephemeral side of the city.
