Burning ICE rendering, Courtesy Chin Chih Yang
Saturday Aug 1, 2009 (11am–7pm)
Union Square
14th St & Park Ave S
Chin Chih Yang is less concerned with confronting us than he is with showing and sharing the urgency of our times and the conflicts that plague the modern world. His 2007 Gordian Knots led to FBI questioning for his projections of Democratic Progressive Party and Republic of China flags, as well as a Taiwan independence symbol, on the walls of high-profile buildings like the UN Headquarters and China's New York Consulate. Burning ICE requires our interaction: sit on some 21,000 pounds of ice (no need to worry about your clothes; towels are provided) and experience firsthand the impact of human activity on the world's ice deposits amid Yang's projected images and emergency lights.
