John Adams: A Flowering Tree

Adams' A Flowering Tree recounts the touching story of a young woman who magically morphs into a tree, undergoing myriad transformations, to help her poor family and eventually find true love. Legendary director Peter Sellars, a longtime Adams collaborator, lends his talent to this marvelous theatrical creation, which is operatic in scale with a focused musical intensity. The libretto is based on a southern Indian folktale, drawing inspiration from Mozart's famed and final opera The Magic Flute.
