Bring Your Own Pinot w/ Daniel Johnnes
City Winery says:
We are honored to host our good friend Daniel Johnnes celebrate the launch of his new Oregon and Burgundy wines under the Johnnes & Company label. This is the first foray into winemaking by superstar Sommelier and Wine Director for the Daniel Boulud Restaurants. Join us for a 3-course French country-inspired menu including some of Boulud's own charcuterie.
The sit-down dinner will include a tasting of his Seven Springs Pinot Noir 2007 and his Gevrey-Chambertin 2007. But in the spirit of his annual Burgundy celebration La Paulee de New York, called by the Financial Times as "the greatest bacchanalia on the face on the earth", we ask each attendee to bring one bottle of their own special Pinot Noir — new or old world — to the dinner party to share with their tables.
This special night has limited capacity and given what will be an incredible evening of drinking Pinot, we expect it to sell out fast. So, please reserve your ticket soon and don’t miss your chance to taste Daniel's first venture in winemaking and an intimate evening of sharing your favorite bottle of wine.
Robert M. Parker Jr., editor in chief and publisher of The Wine Advocate, has described Daniel as "our nation's finest (and nicest) sommelier". He also has said, "When it's great, Pinot noir produces the most complex, hedonistic, and remarkably thrilling red wine in the world..."
From The New York Times' wine critic Eric Asimov: "I loved Johnnes's whole-cluster pinot, which had a juicy floral freshness to it, while the de-stemmed cuvee had a little more cherry sweetness. Both wines were balanced, restrained and light-bodied in the manner of classic pinot noirs."
"The 2007 Gevrey-Chambertin…was pretty – earthy yet delicate – with a similar freshness."
City Winery's already a great place to have dinner, and, for one night, it sweetens the deal considerably with a menu culled from Daniel Boulud's signature dishes. But the real star of the evening is the wine — and the man behind the wine. Daniel Johnnes, Boulud's acclaimed sommelier, is spreading his wings with the opening of his own Oregon vineyard. Be among the first to taste his Seven Springs Pinot Noir 2007 and Gevrey-Chambertin 2007, and don't forget to bring a bottle of your own to share with fellow connoisseurs. This potluck idea is sure to bring a vast array of dynamic wines and equally dynamic people together.
