Lennox Robinson's 1933 comedy is set in a sleepy Irish resort town where a troupe of third-rate actors has unleashed Russian drama. For the townspeople, this influx of Chekhov prompts an unprecedented level of angst and introspection, leading to a rash of attempted suicides and murders. Is Life Worth Living? takes great delight in teetering on the ridiculous, but underneath all the silliness lurks dead-serious questions about the impact art can have on life. Great drama indeed.
