Stefan Gates, UK, 2008 (30 min) In this episode from the BBC’s fascinating Cooking in the Danger Zone series, Stefan Gates spends two weeks in the jungle with the Karen people who are being starved out of their villages and hunted by the Burmese army. Land mines are placed in the fields, making it too dangerous to harvest any crops. Cooking in the Danger Zone explores unusual food stories in some of the world's more dangerous places, using food to explore and understand cultures worldwide.
Lunch Matters is the Rubin Museum's answer to the mid-day monotony. Every Wednesday at 1, grab your lunch in the museum's Himalayan-inspired Cafe, and bring it into the theater for a short film and discussion. This summer’s series, Eating in the Danger Zone, features short films about cooking adventures in the Himalayas, from a fast food joint in Beijing to dinner with a former Taliban commander.
