Trailblazing saxophonist Steve Lehman has been reshaping the sound of avant-garde jazz for the better part of a decade. The Downbeat rising star has garnered critical acclaim for several years, but his recent collective compositions with virtuoso pianist Vijay Iyer and iconoclastic drummer Tyshawn Sorey are particularly impressive. The trio tears it up together as Fieldwork, alternating between bop-inspired grooves, furiously wailing solos, and disarmingly beautiful melodies. Tonight, they play a rare live set at the Stone (John Zorn's legendary experimental club) where they debut new compositions along with pieces from their excellent 2008 release, Door.
