It's hard to think of someone more instrumental in shaping the sound of modern music than Les Paul. In addition to his namesake electric guitar (nicknamed "the log" when he created it in 1939), Paul shaped the way music is recorded today, with overdubbing and multi-track recording — his numerous innovations sometimes even overshadow his equally impressive career as a virtuoso guitarist. Les turned a whopping 94 this year and is currently on hiatus from his weekly gig at the Iridium that he's held with his trio since 1996. But don't worry, he's left the trio in the very capable hands of his old friend Bucky Pizzarelli and fusion guitar legend Larry Coryell.
