Stefan Gates, UK, 2008 (30 min) In this episode from the BBC’s fascinating Cooking in the Danger Zone series, Stefan Gates visits Bihar, India’s poorest state, to meet the Dalits, or “Untouchables.” Gates eats rats, farms with the dalit laborers and learns about the dalit dabwallas who carry lunches from peoples’ homes to their offices around the city. Cooking in the Danger Zone explores unusual food stories in some of the world's more dangerous places, using food to explore and understand cultures worldwide.
Lunch Matters is the Rubin Museum's answer to the mid-day monotony. Every Wednesday at 1, grab your lunch in the museum's Himalayan-inspired Cafe, and bring it into the theater for a short film and discussion. This summer’s series, Eating in the Danger Zone, features short films about cooking adventures in the Himalayas, from a fast food joint in Beijing to dinner with a former Taliban commander.
