They've achieved micro-celebrity status this summer with their absurd ode to hanging out at fast food joints, "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell," but Das Racist have yet to prove that they're anything more than this summer's faddish Internet meme (though admittedly it's not especially clear that their aspirations lie any higher). Describing their sound as "weed edge/Hare Krishna hardcore/art rap/freak folk," the two members of Das Racist obviously revel in deconstructing established genres, injecting their music with a ridiculousness that could be ascribed as containing a socio-political agenda if you for one second thought they took any of this stuff seriously — beyond its obvious appeal as the weirdest and catchiest party music of the summer.
