Read on our interview with Waterpod creator Mary Mattingly on Flavorwire.
Floating habitat the Waterpod Project first set sail in June, but it's docking at Brooklyn Bridge Park today for a presentation on its associate, the BRX Watershed Raft. Alexander Levi and Amanda Schachter canoed down the Bronx River in June on the Watershed Raft, a recycled-materials craft constructed with varied items such as PVC window frames, plastic bottles, broken umbrellas, and some 3,000 used Metro Cards (next time we go to throw ours out, we'll think twice about other uses). Levi and Schachter have gathered the people involved in the creation of the Raft to recount its complex story. With the Raft anchored to the Waterpod, those attending the presentation can board the latter to navigate its uniquely sustainable set-up, complete with gardens, chickens, composting, and water-recylcing.
