Four hundred years after Henry Hudson explored our waterways under the auspices of the Dutch East India Company, the Netherlands conquers New York via the cultural route with an all-out, site-specific festival on Governors Island. Produced under the guidance of two internationally recognized Dutch festivals — the Oerol Festival and De Parade/Mobile Arts — New Island Festival turns the historic landmark into a stage for its irresistible line-up of theatre, dance, music, and miscellaneous entertainment. From the ticketed events to the free performances and communal dining at the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, this extravaganza of Dutch art is an exhilarating experience on one of our newest — and most intriguing — public spaces.
